Launched on March 23, 2020, Next Up. is inspired by Norfolk State University’s motto: We see the future in you. Each week, session hosts and special guests showcase tips, tools (resources and opportunities) and takes (examples and experiences) that will inspire college, career and community success. Don’t attend NSU? No worries! Listen in for universal insights that can help any college student (and others).

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, HOST
January 2020 – 

Dr. Felicia Mebane created Next Up. for the Dr. Patricia Lynch Stith Student Success Center, which is part of the Office of Academic Engagement. Dr. Mebane is an academic support and communications guru with years of experience at notable universities up and down the east coast. 

“One of my passions is helping NSU students get the information they need to succeed. Whether you are inspired by stories or focused on factual information, like events and deadlines, I hope you join us each week.”

HOST
February 2021 – 

Maleik Watkins is a senior at Norfolk State University majoring in Political Science. With aspirations of one day becoming the White House Chief of Staff, Maleik also is minoring in Mass Communications. Here on campus, Mr. Watkins serves as the Lead Peer Leader of the Dr. Patricia Lynch Stith Student Success Center.

Shaquille is dedicated to tapping into every type of media. He believes in working hard to pour into the next generation and giving those who look to him a sense of confidence, knowledge, ambition and hope. Additionally, he serves as a Director & Producer within the film industry as he has a proven track record of producing, writing and directing short films, commercials, podcast, and also documentaries.

March – December 2020

As a producer and host of the podcast, Tresstin White was a mass communications major at NSU. She worked in both the Admissions Department and as a student leader in the Student Success Center. She aspires to be a multimedia journalist, with a focus on television reporting.

Angel Eason helped lead the Norfolk State University Learning Communities program for first-year students. Through these co-curricular activities and programs, she helped freshmen pursue their purpose and lay the groundwork for success in college.
